Winners announced for annual Merced County Writing Festival

More than 2,100 writing entries from students throughout Merced County were received for the Merced County Writing Festival. Similar to previous years, students submitted entries virtually to show their skills in poetry and prose.

Students from preschool through 12th grade selected topics in 40 different categories including short stories, essays, songs, letters and poems.

Winning entries are now live and available for public viewing online at http://mcoe.org/writingfestival.

All entries were submitted through a digital platform and were judged by teachers from participating schools.

First, second, and third place students will receive ribbons and the top two entries for each grade will receive gold medals; one for poetry and one for prose. Awards are delivered to school sites and districts for distribution during the end of year activities.

This year, Merced County Writing Festival, sponsored by the Merced County Office of Education, celebrates its 38th year.
