The Merced Community Mural Project facilitated by artist Jazz Diaz is inviting community members to paint flowers in a designated area on the Justice for Heaven / Healing and Protection mural in downtown Merced on Saturday, Dec. 3, from noon to 5 p.m.
All skill levels and children are welcome. Paint and brushes will be provided. This is a free event.
The mural project is located along the alley at 2221 K Street — adjacent to the offices of the Merced County Times.

The Justice for Heaven / Healing and Protection mural is a commemoration to Heaven Murillo — a 17-year-old loved one who was killed in Merced.
The collaboration is with Justice for Heaven’s family and friends, alongside artist Cindy Garcia, who will be painting Heaven’s commemoration piece. The theme of Healing and Protection comes from a form of awareness that the local community needs to stop the violence toward women, girls, and those indigenous people with the gender identity of two-spirit. Diaz has painted a MMIWG2S (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman, Girls and 2-Spirit) holding solidarity that Native/Indigenous women’s lives and stories go unheard, and the crimes against them go unsolved. This mural carries a heavy subject and the artists are using art to share a message, and at the same time beautify a downtown wall and alleyway.
