Merced Symphony Poised For Season Opener
Merced Symphony comes back with a season of “rebirth and renewal” on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Merced Theatre. Concert starts at 7:30 p.m.; doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Starting the 21-22 season with an exciting concert representing the full return to live music, the Merced Symphony opens with a concert full of favorite concert overtures as well as Stravinsky’s famous Firebird Suite of 1919. Representing the phoenix’ rise from the ashes, Stravinsky’s colorful suite couldn’t be more perfect to start our year back to concerts this season.
Here are the featured classical works for the night:
- Overture to Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
- Overture to Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin
- Egmont Overture by Ludwig van Beethoven
- Overture to Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, Jr.
- Firebird Suite (1919 version) by Igor Stravinsky
“After a month of Sundays, we meet again,” said Ryan Heller, the president of the Merced Symphony Association. “We are glad to have kept our promise to return to in-person concerts as soon as it became safe to do so with an intimate performance capping off our previous season this past July. …
“Your Merced Symphony, a true 21st century arts organization, will continue to grow our reach with free digital programming, including a live simulcast of our Season Premiere Concert on Sept. 25th. … Our Premiere Concert will celebrate “new beginnings” in the best way possible: with opera overtures!”
