Just in time for Halloween, the cult classic musical “The Rocky Horror Show” will be live on stage starting this week at The Merced Theatre.
A sweet young couple gets a flat tire in the rain, and the only place to get help is an eerie mansion. Without knowing it, they have stumbled upon the home of the transvestite scientist Frank-N-Furter, beginning the strangest adventure of their lives as innocence is lost, glistening, muscular life is created, and everyone does the Time Warp again.
Wild characters, intricate dances, and mind-altering music will happen in four glorious dimensions as mad science reigns and inhibitions are left at the door.
Over the last four decades, “The Rocky Horror Show” has become one of the most loved stage shows in the world. This production, which is a collaboration between The Merced Theatre Foundation and Phoenix Creative Collective, will have four performances, including a special performance on Halloween night. A talented cast of performers backed by a live rock band will bring the show to life, with classic songs like “Time Warp,” “Hot Patootie,” and “Sweet Transvestite” infused with wild, untamed energy.
“The Rocky Horror Show” will be at The Merced Theatre Oct. 24, 25, and 26 at 7:30 p.m., and on Halloween night at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in advance at mercedtheatre.org, by calling 381-0500, or at the Merced Theatre box office at 301 W. Main Street in Merced.
There will also be an interactive performance of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” — the legendary movie based on the stage show — at 10 p.m. following the Friday night performance.
