Veterans from across the Merced area gathered at the American Legion Post 83 on Main Street last Saturday to celebrate 100 years of the organization.
With its roots established in 1919, the American Legion strives to secure rights and benefits for all those who have served their country. The organization also helps foster camaraderie among the country’s veterans who have fought in overseas conflicts. During the celebration, those in attendance were treated to live music and a dance floor, as well as a bar-b-que organized for the event.
In addition, State Assemblymember Adam Gray was on hand to recognize the hard work of the organization at the local level alongside of representatives from Congressman Jim Costa and Senator Anna Caballero’s office.
