The Show Must Go On With Covid Protocols

With the cast of Shrek The Musical in town and rehearsals underway, new COVID precautions are being put in place to ensure that each performance can take place in an environment that is safe for both audience members and actors.

To meet this goal, Sierra Rep will be following the requirements of the Actors’ Equity Association for performers and the recommendations of the Tuolumne County Public Health Department for indoor gatherings of over 50 people that can’t be moved outside.

When asked about the changes, Scott Viets, Producing Artistic Director offered these comments, “For anyone visiting our theatre, our number one priority is to protect the health and safety of our actors, audience members, and the community at large. Our performances cannot be moved outside – and social distancing is not possible in the theatre. Putting these new practices in place will make it possible to stage performances, on schedule, bringing the joy of live theatre back to our county. What we are doing here mirrors the actions of many professional performing arts organizations in California and across the country.”

The new protocols place a priority on vaccinations and masking. Beginning with the first preview performance of Shrek The Musical on Sept. 2 and continuing at both East Sonora and Fallon House theaters until further notice, all audience members, regardless of their age, will be asked to do the following:

  • Show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID test within the previous 72 hours when entering the theatre.
  • Wear a mask at all times within the theatre building regardless of vaccination status – including the duration of the performances.

Knowing that these changes may cause some audience members to change their plans, Sierra Rep will offer maximum flexibility to all patrons in returning or exchanging tickets. Ticket holders can request a refund for the face value of the ticket, change a ticket to a future performance of the same or a different show, request a gift certificate equal to the face value of the ticket, or donate the value of the ticket to SRT.
No exchange fees will be charged. For further information, contact the Box Office at [email protected]
