Andrew M. Flores has been selected as the Merced College Student of the Year for 2022-2023, ranking first among the Student of the Month cohort for the academic year.
Andrew is a Los Banos and Merced native and is in his first year at Merced College. He currently has a 4.0 GPA and is interested in Diesel Mechanics. He was nominated by faculty members Jeffrey Buechler and Dean Caivano.
Students of the Month are nominated by the college’s faculty, staff and administration based on grade point average, engagement, personal narrative, and unique characteristics highlighting their academic journey. Students of the Month receive a $50 check, reserved parking, a certificate, and recognition by the Board of Trustees. The Student of the Year receives $250 and will be honored by the board in Fall 2023.
“Students of the Month demonstrate tenacity and perspicacity,” said Merced College Student of the Month Committee Organizer Karrie Bullock. “Faculty often nominate a student because they help their peers, create groundbreaking work, have a high GPA, or have overcome obstacles, had low grades, or didn’t like school at one time, and turn it around. Students of the Month exemplify the mission of Merced College and how learning shapes lives.”
