El Capitan Cheer Team ‘three-peats’ as national champs

The El Capitan Co-Ed Varsity Cheer Team just completed what is known as  a hat trick. For the third year in a row, they took home a First Place trophy at the 2019 USA Spirit National Championships in Anaheim last weekend.

However, this year was even more exciting because the El Capitan JV Cheer squad also won First Place and became national champions for the first time.

Both teams won their titles in the Show Cheer Non-Tumbling Advanced division.

The squads consisted of six Seniors, and 22 other boys and girls. The Varsity Team is coached by Jacqueline Cooksey, and the JV Team is coached by Alejandra Velazquez.

Both coaches were extremely proud of the teams and the season could not have ended for the students on a better note.

Coach Cooksey added that Coach Velazquez was a student who graduated from El Capitan in 2016,  whom she coached.

A very proud and special moment for Coach Cooksey.

Way to go Gauchos!
