After a short time away, the annual Nannini Baseball game made its way back onto the baseball diamond at Merced High. The annual game is now in its 18th year and serves as a memorial game for Kevin and Brian Nannini, two former Merced High School baseball players who became accomplished athletes in the sport. Following the pair’s tragic death in a boating accident, their father Dave Nannini brought together the yearly matchup between the local high school’s best baseball players.
In addition to the game, players on each team who are continuing their education through either a 2-year college, CSU or University, or trade school, are awarded a scholarship as part of the game night. For players who are planning on first making their way into the armed services, the funding for their scholarship is held until they finish serving their country and look to further their education.
As the game got underway, fans were kept on the edge of their seats as the two teams battled it out. Ultimately it would be Golden Valley that would come out on top with a score of 10-2 over Merced High.
