Dragaret — a cabaret experience — is coming to Merced’s Multicultural Arts Center next Saturday, Oct. 23.

The 21 and older Halloween event is being held as a fundraiser for the MAC and will feature performances from local musicians, drag and cabaret performances, and a complimentary drink and desserts.

Doors will open at 7:30 p.m., and will require proof of vaccination and ID for admittance.

“The MAC had been closed through the pandemic and so they faced financial hardships,” said GB, the event coordinator of Dragaret. “We had done a similar fundraiser a couple years ago with social involvement from the community. It included a raffle and drag show-almost exactly like what we’re going to be having with Dragaret, it was a success, and so we wanted to do it again.”

The purpose of the event is to give back to the Multicultural Arts Center and continue bringing attention to the multitude of information and outlets the center has provided for Merced residents. Whether it be art classes or exhibitions, the MAC has continually given artists of every avenue a platform to showcase their work.

“The MAC is definitely one of the beacons of Merced,” GB explained. “I’ve learned more there about different cultures than I ever did in school. They’ve done a great job of highlighting different cultures in our community, just like our Day of the Dead celebration that we’re getting to celebrate this month, or the show they have in February when they highlight Black History Month.”

The center continually hosts exhibitions and events in its building, showcasing local talent and proving that community art and education is important to the educational well-being of residents.

“This is an event driven by the community,” GB said. “This is the community coming together to support the MAC. This is how it should be.”

A dessert bar will be included with each ticket that will feature pastries and food from local restaurants and bakeries. A complimentary free drink is also included for each attendee to enjoy. Everyone is encouraged to dress up as there will be prizes for sexiest and best costumes.

Tickets are available to purchase for $40 at the door. Residents are encouraged to purchase tickets as soon as they can as space is limited, online tickets are sold out, and no extra seating will be added to the event.
