Mercado Night Market returns with better weather
Seemingly making up for the disastrous weather that led to the cancellation of the recent Cinco de Mayo Mercado Night in downtown Merced, Mother Nature blessed the makeup event on May 25 “Noche de Fiesta” with perfect conditions.
This Mercado, as the community has come to expect, was a fantastic evening with a great turnout. Thousands of locals and guests wandered through the streets browsing for goods, learning new information, and eating food from over 80 kiosks and vendors, in addition to enjoying the night’s live performances.
The evening’s featured band was Grupo Nuevo Imperio, who played various Banda hits as well as many other energetic songs the crowd could dance to. Attendees could also enjoy a variety of dance performances from Revolution Dance Co.
One major offering of the evening was the “The Best Tasting Tacos” competition, which was enjoyed by many and ultimately won by the “La Familia” stand. Additionally, the May 25th market featured a classic car exhibition from Suavecito Car Club, as well as a kids’ interactive arts station titled “Play Adventures” on the grass at Bob Hart Square.
Event sponsors were Farmers Insurance Federal Credit Union, Cultiva la Salud, Radio Merced, SMG, and LOBO 98.7 Radio.
For those who are wondering when the Mercado is coming back, the next three scheduled dates are July 6, Sept. 7, and Nov. 6. So make sure that you mark your calendars!
