The Merced College Theater filled its seats last Saturday as local jazz enthusiasts made their way to the Vijay Iyer Sextet’s performance on the Blue Devil stage. As a critically acclaimed show, the Vijay Iyer Sextet Performance provided local residents a wonderful opportunity to listen to high-caliber musicians at a local venue.
Grammy-nominated composer-pianist, Iyer has been heralded by Pitchfork as “one of the most interesting and vital young pianists in jazz today” with the Los Angeles Times praising the Sextet’s most recent album “Far From Over” as “rambunctious” and “furiously funky.” The album was also named one of the 50 best albums of 2017 by Rolling Stone.
The Merced performance was presented by Arts UC Merced Presents and co-sponsored by UC Merced Center for the Humanities, UC Merced’s School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts and the UC Merced Office of the Chancellor
