Playhouse Merced presents The Giver
Come and take a trip into a world without pain or inconvenience, and learn about its cost through Playhouse Merced’s stunning production of “The Giver,” directed by Elena Gonzalez, based on the award-winning, young adult novel written by Lois Lawry, and adapted by Eric Coble.
The Giver is a hard-hitting story that begs the audience to question one’s philosophy about happiness and what makes a life worth living.
“I hope this story can inspire a new generation of young people to choose to make a better tomorrow for themselves and the people around them,” Director Gonzalez said.
The show will be running on Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays at 2 p.m., through March 25. Tickets can be purchased at the box office at 452 W. Main Street in downtown Merced, on the website PlayhouseMerced.com, or phone: (209) 725-8587.
The cast features Enzo Flores and JD Mata as Jonas, Elizabeth Harmelin as The Giver, Doyle Smith as Father, Ileisha Sanders as Mother/Chief Elder, Chloe Mercado and Madilyn Brucia as Lilly, Frankie Fenton and Alyson Tatum as Asher, Alison Henenfent and Starr Schwartz as Fiona, and Odyssey Mercado and Gretchen Draper as Rosemary.
The stage crew includes stage manager Carissa Shrum, costumer Seska Williams, lighting designer Cristo Montañez, sound operator Mark Blackheart, and set designer GB Blackmon III.
Coming up next for Playhouse Merced is the Merced Perennial Players production of Calendar Girls, April 6 through April 8, with Disney’s Newsies Jr. following later that same month on April 20 through April 29.
