The Pixies are heading to Sacramento on April 9, 7 p.m., at the Golden 1 Center, to celebrate their new, co-headlining national arena tour with Weezer.

After a successful jaunt together in the summer of 2018, the two rock bands have teamed up again for this memorable tour — the first chance where you are likely to hear new Pixies music from an album forthcoming later this year.

Pixies changes their set list every night, pulling from the vast catalog, with set list decisions made onstage so it always promises to be a special show.

While Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late ’80s alt/rock movement, having blazed the trail for artists from Nirvana to Radiohead to Pearl Jam, today, a whole new generation of music fans are discovering their iconic “loudquietloud” signature sound.

After five genre-defining studio albums, Pixies disbanded in 1993, and then launched their reunion tour in April 2004, playing to sell-out crowds all over the globe for seven years, a longer period of time than they were a band originally.

After founding bassist Kim Deal decided to leave the band, Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering made the decision to carry on, working with a variety of touring bassists, something they’d never done. In late 2016, Pixies officially welcomed bassist Pax Lenchantin (who had been the touring bassist since January 2014 and was formerly in acts A Perfect Circle and Zwan) as a permanent member.

Together, they released their latest work, Head Carrier, in which Paz co-wrote the track “All I Think About Now” as a thank you letter to Kim Deal. NPR called the album “a reaffirmation of all the spark, wit and weirdness” of the band. On this tour, you can expect a different set list every night with tracks from Head Carrier and Pixies’ 5 other album opuses (likely including 30th anniversary material from Surfer Rosa and Doolittle), but it will also be a chance to hear some of the fresh new tracks from an album to be released in September.

Tickets for the Sacramento show are available on line through Ticketmaster.com, and other concert ticket sites.
