Merced celebrates grand opening of Sprouts Farmers Market

The much-anticipated health food franchise Sprouts Farmers Market is now finally available here in Merced. You can find it in the back of the new Yosemite Crossing Plaza at 171 E Yosemite Ave.

Just before the break of dawn on March 24, hundreds of people, including a collection of public officials and other notable community figures, gathered in front of Sprouts’ new location for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Leading the ceremony were Store Manager Ryan Ramos, as well Merced Mayor Matthew Serratto, who was given the honor of wielding the golden scissors and cutting the ribbon.

“It’s exciting to open a healthy food store here in Merced and serve the community — from the first hiring event where we had over 2,000 people show up, to the overall outpour of community support and excitement since Day 1,” Ramos said. “I just want everyone to come in and see all of the offerings and healthy eats that we have. My team will definitely show you what Sprouts is all about.”

Before the event even started there was already a line of shoppers from the entrance around the corner. And even after all 200 of the welcome gift bags were given out, the line was still around the corner, and growing. Everyone was ecstatic to explore this new store and take part in this special day.

“Its great that Merced is getting new businesses in,” said Mark Perry. “It’s a great new addition to the community.”

Raven Batson said: “I’m exited for Merced to have more gluten free options.”

And Shahnaz Mangat said: “Another Organic store to shop at close to home.”

Another resident exclaimed: “I love Sprouts! Now I don’t have to go to Modesto!”

Merced City Councilwoman Sarah Boyle was there and had this to say: “I’m excited for this to be here. Sprouts is giving our residents additional places to buy groceries, more healthy options, and provides more jobs.”

This excitement was even shared by the Sprouts employees who were present at the event.

“There is really no other store like this around,” said Mary Helen, a staff member. “There are so many products here, like organic and vegan, that you can’t buy anywhere else.”
