Tioga-Sequoia Taproom opens with adult block party

Hundreds of residents, city officials, business owners, and craft beer fans converged on N Street over the weekend for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and Grand Opening celebration of the Tioga-Sequoia Taproom in Downtown Merced.

N Street, between Main and 18th, was completely blocked off for the adult-oriented, outdoor, beer-drinking event — something that has not been experienced in downtown Merced for many years. The event was complete with live entertainment and food vendors.

Merced’s new taproom, located underneath The Tioga apartment complex, represents the first expansion of the Fresno-based brewery into another town. Tioga-Sequoia is known for their numerous lagers and ales that draw their namesakes from natural landmarks throughout the national parks and forests, including Half Dome, General Sherman, Firefall Red, and more. As part of their commitment to honoring and preserving the outdoors, the company donates a portion of their revenue to help support nature preserves to protect and improve areas for future generations.

Saturday’s grand opening celebration allowed residents to freely flow between the taproom and food trucks on the street. A few local businesses lined the street with booths, and a stage highlighted the evening with live music that continued into the night.

Going forward, the brewery will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday, from noon until 8 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday, from from noon until 11 p.m.
