Massive crowds converge on Day 2 of BottleRock

Day 2 of BottleRock — Napa’s three-day music, food and spirits festival — was marked by massive crowds, and fortunately, a lineup of crowd-pleasing performers.

Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran

Fans walked away from the Duran Duran set with jaws dropped and comments of how awesome it was to experience the new wave legends. This band started off with well-known hits, and didn’t stop playing hits until the show ended — proof positive of non-stop wild success since the early 1980s. Their BottleRock show was highlighted by a tribute to the people of Ukraine, an encore of the song “Rio” (requested by the crowd) and their dance-invoking covers of “White Lines” and “Super Freak”

Another performance, earlier in the day, by Nile Rodgers & Chic, also drew a huge amount of fans who apparently wanted to shake their booties. They had people who were watching other performers on distant stages turning their heads to see and hear what was going on with their disco hits — including extended versions of “Good Times,” “I Want Your Love” and “Le Freak.”

And for the more recent pop music fans, especially a ton of teens, a smiling Carly Rae Jepsen performed her set with practically every song seemingly a sing-along. Of course there was Call Me Maybe, but notable standouts included “Talking To Yourself” (written for her ex) and “Want You In My Room.”

Lizzo and Tove Lo rounded off a wonderful day for fans who were passionate to get down and party to the music during Day 2 at BottleRock.

Some astute music fans were fortunate to also see Particle Kid, an experimental future-folk project from Los Angeles-based musician and visual artist Micah Nelson. The show was absolutely amazing and if you haven’t heard of this band —  perhaps “movement” is a better description — look them up and check it out. It’s somehow both easy and hard to believe that Micah Nelson is the son of Willie Nelson. He’s also an amazing visual artist with a lot of unique prints available through online sales. Check out Particle Kid next on  June 1 at The Parish at the House of Blues in Anaheim. Or if you are lucky enough, attend the Outlaw Music Festival with Willie Nelson, Robert Plant and more, on June 23 at the Somerset Amphitheater in Somerset, WI.

Up next for the final Day 3 … The Struts, Sheryl Crow, Warren G, Taj Mahal, The Alive, Lil Nas X, Los Lobos, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers!
