CASA volunteers receive big donation from El Capitan Hotel

Members of Merced County’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) received an incredible gift from El Capitan Hotel just in time for the holidays.

As a part of their efforts to invest in and help out the community, the El Capitan Hotel and its sister entertainment venue, The Mainzer, in downtown Merced have donated $30,000 to support CASA’s efforts in the local community.

“This is huge!” said Cathie Lancaster after receiving the check. “We’re a nonprofit with seven staffers, and the rest are volunteers. This will help us recruit and train more advocates. There are almost 700 foster youth in Merced County and we only have 124 advocates — so we need more advocates, and this will help us greatly.”

Robin Donovan, the managing director of the Mainzer, had the privilege of delivering the check in person. “These children definitely need a voice,” she said, “and CASA definitely does amazing work with these foster children who might not have the ability to speak for themselves and advocate for themselves. So, it is a very worthy cause—especially here in Merced.”
