Bear Bench Returns to Honor Class of 1956

Members of the Class of 1956 gathered at Merced High School to rededicate one of the last benches from the original campus that was previously located on G Street.

The Class of 1956 was one of the last at the G Street campus, now known as the East Campus Educational Center, and had originally dedicated the bench at that location.

Long ago, during a remodeling of the East Campus Educational Center, the historic bench was removed. The plaque, however, remained in storage.

As the new gym took shape recently on the current Merced High campus, an idea sprang up to put the old Class of 1956 plaque back up on one of the added outside benches.

Beginning in September the Merced High School Welding I and II classes began to build the new bench and created a place for the plaque to be mounted on the bench.
