Hors d’Oeuvres Festival poised to be a ‘Garden Party’

The 48th annual Hors d’Oeuvres Festival by the wonderful ladies of Soroptimist International of Merced will be held on the evening of Friday, May 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in a beautiful garden setting at a private residence in town.

This year’s fundraising event will have Live Music, Games, a Raffle, a Silent Auction, Beer, Wine & Cocktails to go with a large and delicious selection of Hors d’Oeuvres from Cater2U by Gena Savoy!

Soroptimist members are getting in the Garden Party spirit: Amy Taylor, Geri Brown, Justi Smith, Chris Long, Teri Albrecht and Teri Kleinen in front as the butterfly.

Soroptimist members will be adorned in their respective garden attire. The food booths will be inspired by five distinctive types of gardens — an English Garden, a Japanese Zen Garden, a Vegetable Garden, a Succulent Garden, and a Beautiful Butterfly Garden.

Guests will enjoy such delicacies as Welsh rarebit, bacon wrapped dates, juicy pork pot stickers, spring rolls, stuffed herb mushrooms, roasted garlic herb potatoes, zesty stuffed bell peppers, tomato basil caprese pasta, Caesar salad cones, and ice cream sundaes, among many other goodies.

Guests are encouraged to dress up in their favorite garden attire with the emphasis on being comfortable and fun. They do suggest to not wear high heels due to the venue which is on a grassy lawn.

No host bar can be found at the “potting shed.” This includes a special signature cocktail reflective of the garden theme, as well as cocktails, beer, wine, mocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages. Stop by the potting shed and say hi to local celebrity bartenders.

The raffle and silent auction theme is Farmer’s Market. A few of the Silent Auction and raffle items include a gourmet meal for 8 with transportation to Halo J Ranch in Catheys Valley; a beautiful diamond necklace from Leighton’s Jewelers; La Belle gift certificates;  a beautiful set of luggage; a private transformation Pilates session from The Studio for up to ten people; 49er tickets with a fun tail gating kit. The raffle baskets are filled with very fun items from local merchants and individuals in Merced.

Soroptimist members would like to thank the local donors who have supported the organization over the years.

To top it off, Merced College standout Ken Taylor will be leading a group of very talented jazz musicians for live music throughout the evening!
