Continuing on his mission of not only recovering, but also beautifying the City of Merced following last year’s incredible storms and flooding, Mayor Matthew Serratto led yet another successful community cleanup event this past Saturday, Jan. 27.
More than 150 community volunteers showed up for what was billed as the “Great Bear Creek Community Cleanup” at Stephen Gray Park and along the nearby waterway and paths. Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria was also on hand to honor key volunteers and advocates, like the mayor, who have been actively involved in cleaning up Merced over the past year.
The volunteers worked hard and carried off tons of trash, but also enjoyed some fun to with city officials bringing out the famed “Block Party Trailer” for entertainment, and there was also an amazing BBQ lunch prepared in the park after the work was completed.

For those who would like to join the effort, or continue helping, the next scheduled community cleanup is planned to take place on March 23 at McNamara Park in south Merced.
