Splendid Salon & Boutique expands women’s corner in Merced

Hair stylist and salon owner Cheng Saeteurn has such an amazing clientele base that currently she is not really taking on new customers. They say Cheng caters to the “Stars of Merced.”

One client told the Times: “Once you get in, you are golden.”

Cheng Saeteurn, the owner of Splendid Beauty Salon and Boutique.

With that said, Saeteurn is indeed expanding her business with the opening of the Splendid Salon & Boutique at 2644 M St., Suite I, in Merced. The new venture is a centerpiece of a new place for women to find relaxation, beauty, health and wellness. This growing village of shops and treatment space is nicely located across from Laura Fountain and the rose garden at Applegate Park, and near the Mercy Outpatient Center. It’s part of an expansion that’s spearheaded by the development group AJEM L.L.C.

Splendid is a neighbor to PRANA — Pelvic Health & Wellness by Katie Beach, a pelvic floor therapist, and also MOCI Wellness, a health clinic led by Dr. Kristina Sogocio for wellness exams, OB/GYN services and specialized skincare. They are also expecting a new Nova Glow Tanning salon by Heather Beechinor to be moving in soon.

For Cheng Saeteurn, who has been in the hair and beauty industry since 1992, the new Splendid Salon is a chance to build out her venture into custom wigs and hair toppers.

“We have hundreds of different colors and styles,” she told the Times. “It’s by appointment only. I want to provide something intimate and private for clients to come in and see what we have to offer.”

Along those lines, Splendid also offers a relaxing patio area between the salon and a new boutique that showcases curated, one-of-a-kind clothing fashions direct from Los Angeles, as well as custom jewelry by local artist Stephanie J.

Also, just around the corner from the boutique, inside the same space, PRANA pelvic health & wellness is supporting moms “through pregnancy and beyond to restore their core and pelvic floor and return to meaningful activities,” as well as athletes and other women with pelvic health concerns. Katie Beach, the owner, is a native Mercedian who returned to town after achieving her medical education goals.

And that’s a theme for this new women’s place in Merced.

Cheng Saeteurn immigrated to the States from Laos in 1980, and graduated from Merced High in 1989. After refining her skills in the industry, she came back to Merced in 2004 to work as a hair stylist and start salon services.

“I love what I do,” Cheng told the Times. “And I think that transcends to my work. And in turn, my clients are like family. I feel blessed.”
