Shakespeare In Yosemite Is Holding Auditions And More!

If you are looking to get involved in Shakespeare, eco-activism, or simply the performing arts, Shakespeare in Yosemite is currently preparing for its 2023 seasonal return to the Curry Village Amphitheater in Yosemite for live performances of a new, 90-minute, adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, especially created for Yosemite National Park. Auditions for the show will be held at the UC Merced campus in the Student Services Building (SSB) 130 on Dec. 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Additionally, for those unable to make it to that date, auditioners can schedule an audition via Zoom.

They are looking for actors, singers, and musicians of all ages. Be prepared to read from the script, and you may bring a song to sing or play if you’d like.

The setting of the play will be transported to Yosemite and feature loads of music as well as family-friendly environmental messages — and this time, the lovers will not die!

As always, there is no cost to attend the event (other than the cost of entrance to the park). Performances will take place in Curry Village Amphitheater:

  • Friday, April 21: 5:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 22: 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 22: 12 p.m.

There will be an additional performance here in Merced before the Yosemite dates that will be announced later.

Shakespeare in Yosemite has other fun things currently in the works and available for the public. Local Artist and regular Shakespeare in Yosemite performer, Cathryn Flore (known as KATT) has recently released her single “Love in Yosemite” onto all major streaming services such as Apple Music and Spotify.

This song was written for and publicly debuted earlier this year with Shakespeare in Yosemite’s production of Love’s Labor’s Lost back in April. This song also just had an acoustic rendition accompanied by footage of the show release on YouTube. Also available on their YouTube Account is footage of a whole live performance. Additionally, a filmed version of the play has been in the works and is scheduled for release sometime in December.

Shakespeare in Yosemite and all of its productions are made possible thanks to a partnership among UC Merced, Yosemite National Park, and Yosemite Hospitality.
