Second-graders in Merced to receive musical recorders

A big Thank You is being sent out to the Community Foundation of Merced County for awarding Merced City School District $14,347 to purchase recorder instruments and place them in the hands of every second grade scholar across the Merced City School District.

“The District, and our tremendously well-deserving scholars, are thankful and appreciative,” said Superintendent Diana M. Jiménez. “We strongly value music and the arts. We’re anxiously looking forward to hearing the joyful new music our scholars will make with their new recorders.”

MCSD serves approximately 1,100 second grade students and is strongly promoting and integrating the Arts into its curriculum.

Foundation Board Member Ryan Heller said, “The Community Foundation of Merced County is devoted to equal access to opportunity, power, and resources for all. In many ways, we are stewards of wealth that really belongs to everyone in Merced County, regardless of age, nationality or socioeconomic status. With that in mind, our strategic partnership with the Merced City School District made perfect sense. We are absolutely thrilled that second grade scholars AND teachers at all school sites will be able to enjoy the benefits of these new instruments, instructional books, and training, because we believe in the importance of educating the whole child.”

A special thank you is also going to MCSD Trustee, Dr. Shane Smith, for facilitating efforts between MCSD and the Foundation so that every second grade student across the Merced City School District will have the opportunity to learn and play music, expanding their learning capacity while having fun.

“I am so thrilled to see MCSD partner with the Community Foundation of Merced County to accelerate music education for all kids, especially 2nd graders,” Smith said.

Through public support, the Community Foundation of Merced County prides itself on investing and distributing charitable donations to Merced County communities.
