The Merced County Association of Realtors on Tuesday combined its annual Elected Officials Appreciation Night with the grand opening of its new headquarters at 3190 M Street, at the corner with Collins Drive, in central Merced.
“Everybody is very excited about the new location,” said Anna Newkirk, MCAR’s board president. “We have more meeting space, more parking space, and more opportunities to hold community events. The move to a new location is something we had talked about for more than a decade, and today it’s a reality.”
Longtime residents might recognize the new MCAR building as the old Citibank branch. The old MCAR offices were located at 635 W. Main St. — near all the hotel construction that’s going on downtown.
Tuesday’s event brought in various local leaders including Congressman Jim Costa, County Supervisors Lloyd Pareira, Lee Lor, Rodrigo Espinoza and Daron McDaniel, Merced City Councilman Matt Serratto, Merced College Trustee Ernie Ochoa and Merced City School District Board member Jessica Kazakos, among others.
Also, the Greater Merced Chamber of Commerce, CEO and Board of Directors were on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, as well as leaders from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
MCAR members are planning a Feb. 11 local election forum with candidates vying for seats on the Merced County Board of Supervisors. The event is expected to start at 5 p.m. More details to come in future editions of the Times.
