Swaran Singh, an experienced entrepreneur, with the help of wife Parmjit Kaur, daughter Sanaya Kaur, and son Tanmayveer Singh, is developing a Pizza Guys franchise at 263 E. Bellevue Road in Atwater from scratch and anticipates opening on Aug. 30.
Singh, age 50, is originally from India. He came to the United States when he was a teenager and has always been in the pizza restaurant business. He started as an employee, then manager, then supervisor and then felt ready to open up his own place.
He is happy to see that his food is liked by people and that he has customers coming in and appreciating that he’s working hard to promote the business and satisfy the customers’ needs. He enjoys having his wife and 11-year-old son come to his assistance at busy times at his restaurants. His daughter, Sanaya Kaur, helps by taking care of communication with employees and the management of the business.
Singh told the Times, “We’re opening Pizza Guys on Bellevue Road in Atwater, which is known as Five Corners. We’re looking forward to opening it on August 30.
“We applied and met the requirements, and then we discussed the expenses and the details with the company. Once approved by the brand, you can either buy a Pizza Guys franchise from someone who is selling or start from scratch.
“We chose to start from scratch, and we’ve hired 18 local people already, and we’ll be looking to hire more employees. Those interested can apply online at the Pizza Guys Atwater location, or they can come in to get the application and do an interview on the spot. We are especially in need of delivery drivers.”
Explaining what led up to the decision to open in Atwater, Singh said, “We were trying to find a place to open a franchise for five years. We have already been part of a franchise since 2011. We owned a Pizza Guys franchise in Merced that we bought from someone, and a few years ago we opened a Pizza Guys in Madera. We bought that one from someone, but it was a different pizza franchise before it closed.
“We sold our Merced location two years ago, and felt that it was time to expand our business to Atwater.
“The Pizza Guys we are part of in Madera has stayed busy. At the beginning, it was hectic because we had to train all our employees. Now, all of our employees are aware of how the process works since they’ve been there a long time.”
Singh told the Times, “I was attracted to the franchise because they have a positive reputation, and the pizza is amazing. The sauce is unique because it’s different from other pizza restaurants. Besides marinara, which is the usual red sauce, we have garlic alfredo, pesto, garlic pesto and pink sauce where we mix the marinara and garlic sauce. The most popular pizzas are Combination (pepperoni, sausage, beef, bell peppers, black olives, mushrooms, onions, salami), All Meat, and Extra-Large Pepperoni. We always have deals on those.
“Besides pizza, we have other food items including Buffalo Bacon Salad, Buffalo Chicken, Crispy Chicken and we also have wings, pasta, bread sticks in various flavors, bacon roll which is bread rolled with bacon and cheese and garlic sauce.
“We also offer Muncheez, which is a snack with jalapenos, potatoes and cheddar cheese, and desserts such as ice cream, cheesecake, cinnamon twist. For beverages, we offer sodas, water, Gatorade, energy drinks, and various juices.”
