Agatha Christie’s classic mystery ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ was performed live on stage at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center June 28 to June 30, and will be making its way back to the stage from July 26 to July 28. The stage adaptation — written by acclaimed playwright Ken Ludwig — manages to capture all of the tension and drama of Christie’s original story while infusing it with enough comedy to make a play that is both gripping and wildly entertaining. With an exceptional cast, made up of seasoned actors from throughout the Central Valley, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ is a delightful play that both thrills and laughter.
The story follows the famous detective Hercule Poirot, who is returning home on the Orient Express after a long journey. When the train gets trapped by a snowdrift in a mountain pass and one of the passengers is found stabbed to death in his locked cabin, strange pieces of evidence and a series of bewildering lies leads him to a startling conclusion about the murderer’s identity. Filled with rich characters and a stunning series of events, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ plays with the differences between justice and law as Poirot unravels the clues to discover the culprit.
‘Murder on the Orient Express’ will return to the stage on July 26 and run until July 28. Fridays and Saturday performances will take place at 7:30 PM, with Sunday performances kicking off at 2 PM.
