Park Merced Crowns Valentine’s Royalty
Park Merced held a sweet celebration for Valentine’s Day as part of their annual Lunchtime Party. Activity Director Kathy Van Alst planned the day for residents and their guests to celebrate love – from organizing the annual Sweetheart King and Queen Contest and decorating the dining room for the Valentine’s Day Luncheon to coordinating the Covenant Players performance. The travelling group from Ventura performed four Valentine-themed skits for residents before lunch.
Nominations for Queen and King started on Feb. 5. Residents and staff made nominations and then voted for their favorites. The ballots were counted and the winners, Larry and Anna Switzer (who are one of two married couples who were nominated) received their crowns during ceremonies just before lunch. The “new royalty” were presented with gift boxes and teddy bears and enjoyed a specially decorated table to themselves in the dining room.
The menu, prepared by Park Merced chefs and kitchen staff, included an Ambrosia salad, choice of salmon with dill sauce or grilled chicken breast, asparagus, baked potato and chocolate dipped strawberries.
Residents received special Valentines made especially for them by students at Weaver Middle School.
