New Kiddieland Train Arrives From Canada
A shiny new train direct from a factory in Canada arrived at Applegate Park in Merced on Wednesday morning to take over as the top ride at Kiddieland.
“Our dream has come true with today’s delivery,” said Karen Adams, the president of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Merced, which operates the amusement park. “Genuine thanks to the community that loves Kiddieland, as much as the Kiwanis members do. Thank you for your support.”
The modern electric train replaces the old engine that went out of commission due to mechanical and track issues in 2023. A fundraising effort within the community immediately started to not only replace the train, but to also expand the footprint of Kiddieland, pave a new track, and spruce up the surroundings.

The project kicked off with an impressive $1.4 million raised in the first year, with many local organizations onboard, including donations from the Merced County Office of Education, the Central Valley Community Foundation, First Five of Merced County, and the Merced County Times.
This was followed by two years of engineering, hard work, and dedication by all those involved.
Construction is currently underway on a new and improved track, expected to be completed by September. A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will follow the completion, marking the official launch of the train’s full operation. Stay tuned for the date to be announced!
The ongoing upgrades to Kiddieland include a new gate and a revised fence line, which will extend approximately 15 feet farther than the original boundary, reaching toward 25th Street. The new train will include ADA accessibility, a new sound system, and a more comfortable ride.
“The return of the Kiddieland Train is not only a celebration of community spirit, but also a sign of more exciting developments to come,” said Jennifer Flachman, a spokesperson for the City of Merced.
The Kiwanis Club would like to thank Wallace Towing for their generous support with the unloading of the train this week, and a special thanks to BZ Construction.
