The 18th annual Nannini Game will be held Friday, May 28, at 6:45 p.m., at Merced High School.

The pregame ceremony is scheduled to start at 6:45 p.m., with the game starting at 7 p.m.

A little history of the game: Brian and Kevin Nannini were both baseball stars before they drowned in the San Luis Reservoir back in 2004.

The Nannini family is making sure the twins will never be forgotten by ensuring other kids have the chance to play ball and pursue a college education. Every year since the tragedy, Brian and Kevin’s father, Dave Nannini,  has helped organize a varsity baseball game in their names between Merced and Golden Valley high schools.

This game raises scholarship money for the seniors on both teams, and also those at El Capitan High. The brothers foundation has awarded more than $60,000 for higher education since 2004.

In 2004, the game started with five or six players receiving scholarships. Now every senior who fills out an application is awarded a scholarship.

For those in the community who want to support the program, they can send donations to P.O. Box 1335, Merced, CA, 95341. ID# 47-3890652.
