Merced Thanks Veterans With Big Parade On Main St.

The 2019 Veterans Day Parade drew hundreds of area residents to Downtown Merced on Monday as the community thanked military members for their service.

The event kicked off at 1 p.m. at Bob Hart Square as local dignitaries and representatives joined together to speak about the important role veterans took on to secure the freedoms all Americans enjoy. As speakers took to the stage, the event was punctuated by a flyover of two F-15 fighter jets.

As the ceremony got back underway, Co-Grand Marshals A1C Charles Hendrickson and Sgt. Herman Hermosillo were honored for their service and recognized during the ceremony. Hendrickson served in both the US Army and Air Force during World War II and the Korean War, and Hermosillo served with the US Army during the Korean War.

As the celebration moved to Main Street, dozens of floats sponsored by local organizations, businesses, clubs, and schools made their way along the parade route. Each entry placed pride and patriotism on full display.
