Chris Velazquez, an independent Merced filmmaker and founder of the Violette Film Festival in town, entered a short film in SwedeFest 2020 that was presented online this Friday, Dec. 11.

SwedeFest is a low-budget filmmaking festival where filmmakers use improvisation to make short re-creations of their favorite movie scenes or trailers. The fun part of the production process includes doing all the work from home, using things like cardboard items around the house, and more.

A “sweded” film has nothing to do with Sweden and everything to do with the idea of weird, homemade remakes of your favorite films as seen in Michel Gondry’s 2008 film “Be Kind Rewind.”

Representing Merced in the SwedeFest competition, Velazquez created a Star Wars “Mandalorian Season 2 Trailer.”

SwedeFest 2020 is a FREE online event that will stream on select services and TV channels, including the CMAC channel (Comcast 93, 94, 96, AT&T 99 or http://cmac.tv.)
