McGeary to head government, community relations at UCM

Michael McGeary has been named executive director of government and community relations for the University of California, Merced, after an extensive search process. He assumed his new role Aug. 23.

McGeary was most recently head of global public policy for the San Francisco, CA-based Upwork, a global work marketplace, engaging with state and federal regulators on policy initiatives related to the future of work.

A graduate of Tufts University with a BA in political science, he is a veteran of the Barack Obama and Howard Dean campaigns. He serves on the Council of Business Sponsors of the Central Valley Community Foundation and the Board of Directors of Allied for Startups in Belgium.

“We are excited to have Michael join our team, as we continue to expand our federally funded research and draw more visibility to our great work in Sacramento and across the state of California,” said E. Edw. Klotzbier, vice chancellor for external relations. “He brings a wealth of experience, an entrepreurial spirit and a keen, analytical mind to our comprehensive outreach program.”

McGeary resides in Clovis, CA, with his family.
