With the theme, “Truckin’ thru California,” Soroptimist International of Merced held its 45th annual Hors d’Oeuvres Festival on May 31.
The group’s biggest fundraiser of the year returned to the backyard of the Riggs family home — the longtime location for the event.
Soroptimist International of Merced is part of a global organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
This year, the ladies of Soroptimist put on their California road trip travel gear and once again created one of the town’s best social events of the year.
Soroptimist International of Merced is a nonprofit organization and relies on fundraising and donations to support their programs. Funds raised will go to the service projects: Live Your Dream education and training awards for women, Allied Health Education Grants for students, AVID Scholarships for high school girls, the Valley Crisis Center, CASA, and the Boys & Girls Club.
More than $5,000 was handed out during the most recent Live Your Dream awards. The recipients were local women who overcame poverty, teen pregnancy, violence, homelessness, and other life challenges.
