George William ‘Bill’ Mitchell of Merced dies at 69

May 4, 1954 — March 22, 2023

George William Mitchell, 69, passed away peacefully in Merced on March 22, with family by his side.

Born May 4, 1954, in Fowler, Ca, he was the first child to the late Paul Dwayne Mitchell Sr and LeeAnna Rose Mori Mitchell. They moved around a lot but called Merced home.

He was known as Bill to many, Wild Bill to family and Uncle Bill to all the many younger nephews, neices and cousins. Family was profoundly important to him.

He enjoyed drawing, fishing, being with loved ones, and having fun.  Bill watched many sports but enjoyed boxing most.His music choices were Rock & Roll and Country.

Bill was a loyal and caring man. He prided himself as the protector of the family as family ment the world to him.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his siblings Thomas Perry Grissom Sr, Paul Dwayne Mitchell Jr, Leanne Janie Mitchell, and reunited with the love of his life Diane Wendling.

He is survived by his stepchildren Shotgun Leach and Tammy Leach, who he loved as his own, friends and many family members.

A graveside service was already held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, at Catheys Valley Cemetery in Catheys Valley.

A celebration on life was held after the service at the same location.
