In a sweeping Back-To-School effort, groups and volunteers across Merced have been helping local children get ready for the new academic year.
At the Salvation Army headquarters in Merced, about 150 young children were treated to backpacks, free haircuts, free clothing, and a fun celebration with games, music and food. The event was supported by the Education Employees Credit Union, and some 20 volunteers. The haircuts were provided by a group of 21 students from the Milan Institute Merced.
Meanwhile, the Salvation Army was also at Walmart in Merced collection donations from the community for school supplies that will be handed out throughout the year.
Most public schools in Merced start the new academic year on Aug. 14!
School supplies and monetary donations can still be made at the Salvation Army, 1440 W. 12th St., in Merced.
