Friends of Frank Paredes Throw a Birthday Party

Local resident celebrates his 99th year on Earth.

The Friends of Frank Paredes, members of the #1240 Elks Lodge, and a special guest came to celebrate Frank’s 98th birthday this past Sunday.

Many touching tributes to our local WWII & Korea veteran were shared, gifts were given, and he captivated the crowd by regaling some of his own remarkable stories.

Kenn Working of Atwater surprised Frank with photos that he thought had been lost. Kenn was able to recover photographs of Frank with his two brothers who had also served in the military. It was a touching moment when Frank realized these photos were in fact, not lost.

Joshua Mason from Congressman Jim Costa’s office was on hand to deliver Frank a certificate of his 98th birthday and to honor him with a flag that had been flown over the US Capitol building in Washington D.C.

Birthday cards from 98 students at Shaffer Elementary School in Atwater were also presented to Frank. Partygoers enjoyed perusing the cards that these school children wrote and drew for Frank.

The veterans in attendance held court and swapped stories about their service. Those that haven’t served in the military sat around and listened in awe. The party closed out with Frank blowing out candles on his gigantic cake, and the crowd joked about having 99 candles on his cake next year!
