Final Day 4 of Aftershock brings Guns N’ Roses

Saturday belonged to Korn, Dethklok, Turnstile, 311 and Sleep Token

The number of metal fans attending the Aftershock music festival in Sacramento visibly surged to greater numbers on Saturday, and ahead of Sunday’s Day 4 finale with headliner Guns N’ Roses, along with Rancid and Queens Of The Stone Age.

Nu-metal legacy band Korn — entering its 30th year — added thunder to an already explosive Day 3 with fan favorites such as “Rotting in Vain,” “Here to Stay” and “Y’all Want a Single.”

Much earlier in the day on Saturday, Aftershock goers received some unfortunate last-minute news: Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor canceled his scheduled same-day solo performance at the festival.

Taylor shared on social media: “During our Los Angeles show this past week, I fell on stage and sustained a significant injury to my knee. On top of this, a few members of our band and crew have been impacted by Covid, and as a result, we are unable to perform.”

Nevertheless, the afternoon bands moved up in time slots, and without fail, the impressive sets continued to build up momentum within the massive crowds in every section of the park.

They packed in enthusiastically to see a somewhat rare live performance by Dethklok — the band’s only tour performance in California this year. The stars of the cult animated Metalocalypse TV show (2006 to 2013) did not disappoint fans. They rocked with phenomenal velocity on such hits as “Murmaider” and “Awaken.”

Surging Alt-rock stars Sleep Token from Britain also proved to Aftershock that its West Coast fan base is growing exponentially. The masked singers drew in perhaps the largest crowd ever to the DWP Stage, which is smaller than the nearby Jack Daniels main stage. The fact that nobody really knows who the band members are adds to the allure of Sleep Token. Fortunately they are tall upfront — including the frontman known as “Vessel” — so fans trapped in the back could still get decent views of them during “Chokehold,” “Granite” and “The Offering.”

Day 4 Sunday is about to begin … Wargasm, Ayron Jones, Badflower, Daughtry, I Prevail, Dance Gavin Dance, Billy Talent and more.
