Discover Fairy Tale Magic at Cinderella’s Closet

The annual Cinderella’s Closet will magically open on Sunday, March 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

But girls, that’s not your only chance: The closet will open again at the same time on the following Sundays: March 11, March 18, March 25, and April 8.

Local high school students and junior high school students can come and find prom dresses, shoes and accessories — and it’s all free.

Also, families and businesses looking to donate prom dresses, shoes and accessories can do so at Merced High School to help support the effort.

Pick-up services are available. Call 726-7907 with any questions.

What’s great about Cinderella’s Closet, is that its run by local high school student leaders.

This year, Morgan Kirby, a senior at El Capitan High School, is leading the effort.

Five years ago, it was Kirby’s older sister and friends who started the prom dress drive here in Merced.

So far, Cinderella’s Closet has helped out well over 500 dresses to students in the local area, and the effort to continue helping those looking to go to prom in style is just getting underway.

“I believe that prom is a high school experience that every girl deserves to have, but we understand that this is an expensive event,” Kirby told the Times. “This is why we are committed to providing as many new and gently used prom dresses to the Merced community and beyond as we can. … We want to spread the word about Cinderella’s Closet as much as we can for this is truly an event with the ability to make a difference in our Merced community.”
