The Merced High School Marching 100 hosted the 2019 Winter Guard International (WGI) – Fresno Regionals on campus last Saturday drawing in hundreds of young percussionists from marching bands in the region.
The weekend competition was focused on percussion, and pulled together the best drumlins from all over the Golden State for a chance at the top prize.
Teams from Golden Valley High School, Merced High School and El Capitan made it to the finals in the “Scholastic Marching A” division, with Golden Valley earning second overall in the division rankings. Merced and El Capitan were ranked 5th and 6th.
Lemoore High would come out on top, with a judges score of 80.450 followed by Golden Valley with 77.500 and Madera High School with 75.250. Taking fourth place was Sunnyside High with 72.450 followed by Merced High and El Capitan with 71.875 and 67.950 respectively.
