COVID-19 hospitalizations surge in Merced County, according to county health officials

NEWS ALERT: Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 related cases have increased due to local hospitals reporting a significant
increase in patients over the last two days — 13 admissions in one hospital — and because of a lag in case reporting.
As of 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, there are 2,403 confirmed cases (+90 from Thursday) of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) in Merced County. Approximately 1,131 of those cases are active, and 15 have died.
• As of July 14, a total of 19,885 tests have been performed in Merced County: 17,403
negatives, 2,183 positives, and 299 still pending.
• In California, there are 362,515 confirmed cases and 7,477 deaths.
