Calvary craft fair becomes a fun community event
Calvary BC, a Baptist church located at 1365 E. Alexander Avenue in Merced, held a craft fair on Dec. 8 at the Merced County Fairgrounds to benefit its youth ministries.
Community members browsed the booths for special Christmas gifts throughout the day.
Nichol Haase, who organized the fundraiser on behalf of Calvary BC, said, “This is our eighth year. I’m actually a vendor myself, for N K Designs, my business. We personalize wood signs, and everything.”
N K Designs holds workshops in Merced where participants can create custom wood signs and many other do-it-yourself projects to enhance the home.
Haase said, “By crafting these projects with family and friends, it’s easy to get addicted. It’s simple, fun and brings out the artist in anyone!”
She added, “Our workshops include all the materials and supplies needed to complete your project along with step by step instructions by one of our designers. We are constantly adding new designs and coming up with new projects, so there are many opportunities to come to N K Designs and create a new project or learn a new skill.”
The business also sells drinkware.
Livicia Howard, who owns Sweet Dreams & Bows, explained, “I sell handmade items such as children’s clothing, pillows, chunky necklaces that the kids just love, tutus for dance, hair bows and doll clothing.”
She added, “The clothing sizes are infant, baby, and toddler, and there are girls’ sizes and some boys’ clothing.”
Lydia’s Been Jammin’ displayed decorative jars of jam and applesauce at the craft fair.
Some of the choices were Pomegranate, Mango, Strawberry/Blueberry/Cherry, and Lemon Jalapeno.
The owner, Lyida, exclaimed, “We live in a wonderful environment in this county. I’m a fruit gypsy! I follow the fruit. But instead of picking it, I buy it.”
She said, “I buy fruit from a local fruit stand, Yang’s, on Alexander and McKee in Merced. I enjoy making the jam.”
