The late John Derby was the founding publisher of the Merced County Times and Mid Valley Publications. He launched the first edition in 1964 and continued to guide operations across the company’s five newspapers—as a board member, columnist, reporter, ad sales executive, and even pressman—until his passing at his winter retreat south of the border.
