Atwater Hosts Annual 9-11 National Day of Remembrance

The anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on our nation was marked by a somber ceremony at the Atwater Community Center on Monday morning.

The National Day of Remembrance ceremony took place on the lawn adjacent to the flagpoles alongside Bellevue Road, where local agencies gathered for the annual payment of respects of lives lost, both in the 2001 attacks as well as in the line of duty locally.

The ceremony was solemn and traditional, led by Atwater Police Chief Michael Salvador. The flag was raised as those in attendance watched in silence. Representatives for Congress, the Senate, the State Assembly, the Board of Supervisors, City Council, Highway Patrol, Sheriff, Police, Fire, and EMS were all in attendance. Lists of names of those who had fallen were read, and different agencies shared their respective creeds and prayers.
