From the very start — when the members of Slipknot emerged from the swirling stage fog, fans knew they were in for something “(sic)” and different. “Eyeless” came next as the crowd just grew larger and larger.
It was as if the entire 40,000 rockers who came to Day 2 of the Aftershock rock festival in Sacramento on Friday were magnetically pulled toward Jack Daniels Stage.
“Tonight, you won’t hear one song written after 1999,” shouted frontman Corey Taylor. “For the casual Slipknot fan – sorry!”
Then Slipknot delivered a “no frills, just brute force” tribute to their 1999 self-titled debut album to mark their 25th anniversary tour.
Slipknot was the highlight of Day 2, and a tremendous momentum builder for Saturday’s Day 3 lineup that will usher in Lorna Shore, Judas Priest, Anthrax and Iron Maiden.
Day 2 Highlight:
The women of rock showed in Force on Day 2. From an early start by Winona Fighter to The Warning to Poppy and Julliet Lewis and the Licks, and of course, Evanescence fronted by Amy Lee.
Mexican rock band, The Warning, made their presence known with an impressive, late afternoon performance in front of an equally impressive crowd on the main Jack Daniels Stage. It was easy to see how their popularity has grown in only a couple years since their last, early afternoon showing at Aftershock.
