Joy, Grace & Courage

The 42nd annual Kiki Raina Tahiti Fete made its colorful appearance inside of the Golden Valley High School gym last weekend to capacity crowds.

The island dance competition and exposition — one of the largest outside the Pacific Islands — brought together hundreds of participants and spectators. The event also featured vendors selling specialty cuisine, cultural items and instruments.

This year’s participants were eager to show how their skills had progressed over the course of the last year, with dancers of all ages ready to make their way in front of the judges.

In addition to the dance competition, the annual Miss Maeva Merced competition was held. Nicole Lavorini of Daly City’s Manuia Polynesian Revue was crowned this year’s winner.
