Downtown Turlock to display Youth Art banners from Carnegie

Turlock’s Carnegie Arts Center (CAC) is opening its 11th exhibition season this fall, and to kick off a new year full of fun and creativity, it held a contest for artwork created by young artists on the theme of “My California” – highlighting something they love about the Golden State.

“Because Turlock is really the heart of our state, we thought an art display in our downtown would be a great way to show what makes California special,” said CAC Director Lisa McDermott. “The response to our banner contest last year was so great, we decided to open up this fun opportunity again.”

Submissions were accepted through the month of August and 166 entries from across the county were received. The selection committee reviewed all the works in September.

“It was a difficult decision, but the committee settled on 14 winning designs by kids ages 4 to 17,” McDermott said. “The winners represent a great mix of images and subjects – California’s iconic landmarks, our native wildlife, family and home, favorite activities, and more.”

The artwork has been printed on street banners that will be displayed on light poles throughout Downtown Turlock. The banner contest and display is generously sponsored by Robic Refrigeration and the Turlock Downtown Property Owners Association.
